cindy sherman get ideas from other artists #132???????
does cindy get ideas from other artists for her photos.. i have an assgnment and cant find it anywhere. specifically in untitled #132.. please give a website.. i will give thumbs up and xtra points
I just looked up the image (I have her retrospective book in my office) and there is no specific reference made to another artist or other creative origin for the image. A lot of Shermans work is designed to look like it is derivitive of something when it isn't - this is more about genre than anything else, so her film stills aren't from films, but they reference the style of film stills from a certain era (lots of them look quite Hitchcock for instance).
So, what you could do is talk about the genres she works in and the kind of dialogue she is trying to have with her audience about what story her pictures might tell.
Sorry I cant recommend websites, but you could get out Cindy Sherman 'Retrospective' (Thames and Hudson, 1997) from the library - its a really comprehensive account of her work with her own accompanying notes.
