Van Der Rohe

what is the difference in style between adolf loos, le corbusier and mies van der rohe?
omg, you should not leave such a fun question up to us! .... You should just go after it yourself!!!
Hope you know that online there is a nifty encyclopedia called "Wikipedia" which has not only articles on subjects but lists links you can log onto .... let's have a look, ok?
for just the stuff I grazed over quickly ~ really scatty notes.... just to orient myself, just to see, just to anchor my boat in each port ....but the basic question: to write about their style ... so: first see the style of each, then contrast them....
(all three are 'modern architects' which means .........(to be defined) ........) type in on your Yahoo! Search space:
Adolf Loos - Viennese- against superfluous decoration and ornament - (picture of lg bldg ... same as old but w/o ornament!) -
was into not only public but private houses ... into dec arts including silver, leather, and menswear, the latter interrest blooming into Knize of Vienna ... (Knize 10, a man's cologne, do you know of it? Still around?)(get his dates and other info ... just to orient yourself, and to make it all real ....can be noted very quickly in a report,... don't think it is not important, it is just riveting!! ....)
Le Corbusier >>>>>>>
(get his real name & his birth/death dates)
an urban planner (including a modern city in the north of India !!) ...his 5 points of style including structure built on stilts, a 2nd floor which had continuous windows .... etc.....roof garden ...)
also did furniture ....(*mighty* fine stuff ! see the pictures)
see the pictures of his buildings, too
and: last but * hardly* least >>>
Mies
(get down his real name, dates, place of birth etc... )
OMG !!!! Zowie !!! Beautiful beautiful stuff!
Big man, big concepts ... gorgeous buildings, notably one of which is in New York, designed with Phillip Johnson: the Seagram Building at 375 Park Avenue ... (skyscraper) ... the most beautiful furniture, one famous piece and its "ottoman" being the Barcelona chair (Knoll International makes / made it, if I am not mistaken) ... have seen this fit into a stone castle with a stone carved fireplace, oriental rugs and ... and this chair ..... it worked !!!! ...
Zowie! Three absolutely breathtakingly brilliant men!
Get going, girl. You have at least 4 hours of fun ahead of you. Wish I were you !!! Hope this is helpful in some way!
Hope your other books are just as much fun.
To indicate the difference in their style ... I would make three columns on the top of a page ... ea. man's name, and his dates right underneath his name, and his birth and death places....
then list each man's major areas of design (furniture, clothes, cities, skyscrapers ) .... and try to make it clear for yourself how each man was not only a harbinger of things to come, an avant garde thinker, and an innovator ..... but how he utilized wht he already had to work with: drawn from where he lived, how his work was an extension of what was already around him..and how each one of those design influences expressed itself in his work: how the slightly different *eras* and very different *places* each man worked and *travels* ( or conversely, how he stayed at home, if he did...)..and take into consideration the *scope* of his work ...was it menswear .... or entire cities???.. I am sure you already have ideas of your own ...these are just suggestions off the top of my head...
All the best
